A good education for students including their personal development & academic achievement. Ofsted 2013

Chaplaincy

Chaplaincy is a distinctive feature of a Catholic School. Our purpose is to support the spiritual development of students and staff and to offer pastoral support as part of the wider staff team.

Supporting the spiritual and liturgical life of the school

We celebrate the liturgical seasons with liturgies (services) before Christmas and Easter and on Ash Wednesday, and thanksgiving Masses at the end of each school year as well as at other times. Students have opportunities to be involved in all of these liturgies - through reading, music, drama, art etc. We create prayer resources which are used every day in school for tutor time and assemblies.

Offering retreat days for all students

Each student participates in a day retreat in Years 7, 8, 9, 10 & 12 with their form tutor and other staff.  Year 7 retreat days take place in September and October giving students a chance to get to know people better and make new friends, as well as reflecting on the gifts and talents God has given to each of us.

Giving pastoral support to students and their families

Students come seeking support when they experience difficulties in their lives. Some are coping with a bereavement or loss, some might have argued with friends or are struggling with different issues. Support is offered to the wider family too. All find a place where they can talk through their problems and are encouraged to find a way forward.

Working in partnership with our partner schools, parishes and Diocese

We are fortunate to have very strong links with our partner schools and spend time visiting Year 6 students to help their transition from Year 6 to Year 7. We are often involved in Diocesan events as we have a strong musical tradition. We are grateful to our parishes and the clergy for their involvement in the life of the school, particularly in celebrating Mass and the Sacrament of Reconciliation.

Chapel

We have a newly-refurbished Chapel available to students and staff for prayer and reflection before the Blessed Sacrament.

Our dedicated full time Chaplain is Jane Porter.
