Remembrance Day 11th November

Remembrance Day

This year we commemorated Remembrance Day with some beautiful window displays around the school and the fantastic Mr Woollams and Ben, now in Year 11, did the school proud by playing The Last Post for all the school and surrounding area to hear, showing our respect to those who have lost their lives in conflict.

Remembrance Day

This year Cardinal Newman commemorated those that had lost their lives in conflict by playing The Last Post. To accompany Mr Woollams this year we had the very talented Ben from Year 10.

Ben had only seen the music a week before and with mentoring by Mr Woollams rehearsed the piece and played from memory to half the school and Mr Woollams the other half. The tribute could be heard as far as the riding school!

We are very proud of the music department and to Ben for making our tribute so memorable.
A video recording of the tribute went viral on our Facebook page, reaching over 79,000 newsfeeds and 'liked' by 2,603 people! Amazing!

100 Year Anniversary

To commemorate 100 Years since the start of World War I Cardinal Newman Catholic School has been reflecting and showing their respects to those who fought and lost their lives for our freedom.

We marked the anniversary with a range of displays by many departments and also a giant poppy created by individual poppies each with a special message from each student.

On Remembrance Day staff and students stood silent for two minutes with Mr Woollams our music teacher playing the last post, which could be heard throughout the school.
