Media Studies

Be doers of the word, and not merely hearers who deceive themselves.

James 1:22

curriculum intent

Media Studies will encourage students to develop and enhance their enjoyment and appreciation of the media and its role in their daily lives. They will develop a critical understanding of the media through an engagement with media products and concepts and through creative application of practical skills by exploring production processes, technologies and other relevant contexts. They will become independent in research skills and in their application of their practical work in developing their own views and interpretations and becoming critically autonomous.

curriculum overview: Media Studies

Welcome to the Media Studies department!

Media Studies can be opted for in Year 9. In Year 10, there will then be the choice of taking the subject at GCSE or taking our vocational BTEC route. Both options give students the chance to learn both theoretical and practical aspects of the subject - they are just assessed in different ways. Both routes also give students access to studying the subject in our Sixth Form where we currently offer A-Level Media Studies.

At GCSE and A-Level, we follow the Eduqas specification and the BTEC course is awarded by Pearson and is part of the new Technical Awards and is called Creative Media Production.

We are a well sourced department and have an IT suite that has Adobe Photoshop and Premiere Elements which allows students to learn how to create and edit media products. We also have a range of equipment that students can borrow to help them complete their work.
